Harlan Coben - "Mistyfikacja"

Piękni, młodzi, bogaci i zakochani.

Harlan Coben - "Play Dead"

As we mentioned few posts earlier, we decided to spice up our blog. Today I would like to start a new series of book reviews. And at the first to go is the book of my favourite author - "Play Dead" by Harlan Coben.

"Laura Ayars and David Baskin seem to be created for themselves. A former model, currently the owner of the Svengali fashion house, and a Boston Celtics player, NBA star. Beautiful, young, rich and in love. A tragic accident interrupts their honeymoon in Australia. The circumstances of death are unclear, but everything indicates that David drowned while swimming in the ocean. A distraught girl cannot come to terms with the enigmatic disappearance of her beloved. Oblivious to the danger threatening her, she questions the official version of the happening. Is it really an accident or suicide or even murder? Or maybe David is alive, and his death was disguised? People who may have known the answer have been killed. Someone clearly wants the truth to not be revealed. The chain of secrets and crimes is tightening around Laura more and more."

I believe that the time spent on "Play Dead" is not lost. Although the book is thick because it has as many as 543 pages, it is read at a fast pace. This is not the author's best book, but Harlan Coben himself advises against reading it first.
"Well, if this is my first book that you hold in your hand, put it away. Give it back, take another, no problem, I'll wait, but if you're still here, know that I have not read Play Dead for almost twenty years. I didn't want to improve this book and sell it as a new one, I hate it when writers do it. (...) "
"Play Dead" is Harlan Coben's first novel written in his teenage years, so you can not expect a lot from it. The story is slowly spinning, and the puzzles are easy to guess. Already while reading you can guess who ?, how? and why? That is why it is worth listening to the author and read other works of Harlan Coben before "Play Dead".

Although the book is not the best, I would recommend reading it anyway. I'm sure if you like crime books, Harlan Coben will be your favourite author.
